| Numbers 1:1 -- And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying, Numbers 1:2 -- Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls; Numbers 1:3 -- From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies. Numbers 1:4 -- And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers. verse 5 begins listing the groups Numbers 1:9 -- Of Zebulun; Eliab the son of Helon. Numbers 1:10 -- Of the children of Joseph: of Ephraim; Elishama the son of Ammihud: of Manasseh; Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. Numbers 1:16 -- These were the renowned o f the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, heads of thousands in Israel. Numbers 1:17 -- And Moses and Aaron took these men which are expressed by their names: Numbers 1:18 - - And they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month, and they declared their pedigrees after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls. Numbers 1:19 -- As the LORD commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai. Numbers 2:1 -- Numbers 2:1 -- And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Numbers 2:34 -- Numbers 2:34 -- And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses: so they pitched by their standards, and so they set forward, every one after their families, according to the house of their fathers. We see here that everything Israel did was to be done in order. They could not even march or camp in just any position they chose. Rather, God ordered a definite station for each tribe. The Israelites were to camp according to tribes, and each tribe had its own banner. This sets a pattern followed throughout scripture. Order. God is concerned with order. He has a definite plan and a desire for us to follow in that plan. All things should be done properly, in an orderly fashion. 1 corinthians 14:40 God wants to fashion every thread of our lives into a beautiful garment that will honor Him and bless us. Romans 8:28 To the degree which our lives are aligned by the Lord, we experience His peace. What are some ways God has designed order in our lives? To see that God loves order, all we have to do is look around. The sun, the moon, and the stars “declare the glory of God” Psalms 19:1 -- The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Constellations and planets rotate in the order God designed. The earth rotates on its axis in such a predictable way that we measure days and nights. It circles the sun so predictably that we count off years by observing it. God placed the sun at just the right distance from the earth. Were it any closer, we would burn up. Were it any farther away, we would freeze. The creator has established the pattern of cycles and seasons. As long as the earth remains, He promises that planting time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not fail. Genesis 8:22 -- The seasons are proof of Gods love and care for us. The order of the seasons mirrors the order He wishes for us to observe in our lives. God is the one who placed governments in power. Romans 13:1 -- Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. The nation of Israel was organized into tribes for several reasons. 1. It was an effective way to govern such a large society 2. It made division of the promised land easier. 3. It was part of their culture. Rather than being known by their last name, people were known by their family, clan, and tribe. 4. Detailed family trees were easier to keep when tribes were together, which was important since genealogy was the only way to prove that you were a ligitimate member of Gods chosen people. 5. Travel was much more practical, since every person knew what his or her tribal flag looked like and they could stay close together and not get lost. These tribes had many thousands of people. The smallest tribe had close to forty thousand members. Good organization enables people to work well together in harmony and to reach a common goal. Think of some ways that we as Christians need order in our lives and churches so that we can reach Gods goals and do His will The very organization of the Israelite camp was ordered by God. By obeying His commands and methods of organization, even when the logic behind them was not understood, the people became more effective. If the Israelites had become a mere collection of individuals each going his or her own way, their ability to be used by God would have been lessened. But as they looked to God for organization and direction, they were an effective instrument for His glory. This principle is no less valuable among Gods people. In our families, in the church, here in this ministry at CCNet. God has specific standards for who He chooses to minister in what ways. Ephesians 4:11-12 As you minister online and in other places, listen for His voice and His leading and see His plan. He knows how He desires to use you and when and where He wants you Another area where we need order is in our families. Since the family was God’s idea in the first place, we should pay close attention to His directions in those relationships. The family is ordained by God and so it can be successful. To the extent it succeeds, the nation and the world will be peaceful. The final area of order we will look at is our personal lives. The main thing in life is keeping the main thing the main thing! And that main thing is giving God priority in all things. Do you have a spiritual purpose in your life? If you do then you will not fail, bbut will remain focused apon the Lord and will endure the battles. God made us in His image and to reflect His image we need to do everything decently and in the order He has planned. As He enables us to remove the discord from our hearts, our ordered lives will confess the beauty and glory of His peace. |
